Common Locksmith Questions
Open a question below for the answer.
Do you provide mobile locksmith service across Kauai?
Yes. Hanalei Locksmith is a mobile automotive and residential locksmith based on Kauai’s North Shore. We regularly serve Hanalei, Princeville, Kīlauea, and Hā‘ena, with island-wide service available depending on the job and schedule.
Can you unlock my car without damaging it?
We use professional, vehicle-appropriate entry methods designed to reduce the risk of damage. Depending on the vehicle, that may include a Lishi pick, an air wedge, or a long-reach tool. No method is appropriate for every vehicle, so we choose the approach after identifying the year, make, and model.
Can you make a car key when all keys are lost?
Yes, for many supported vehicles. When no working key remains, we originate and cut a replacement key, then program it to the vehicle’s immobilizer. For push-button-start vehicles, we program a compatible proximity smart key fob. Compatibility must be confirmed before service.
How much is an all-keys-lost key for a Toyota Tacoma?
For supported Toyota Tacoma models through 2025, all-keys-lost service is $300 total with a transponder key or $350 total with a proximity smart key fob. Each total includes the non-waivable $250 AKL service charge and the selected key or fob.
How much is a duplicate Toyota Tacoma key?
For supported Toyota Tacoma models through 2025, a universal transponder key is $50, cut and programmed. A proximity smart key fob for a supported push-button-start Tacoma is $100, programmed. A $60 mobile service call applies unless you meet us in Hanalei.
Is the $60 mobile service charge waived in Hanalei?
The $60 mobile service charge for an additional or duplicate key is waived when you meet us in Hanalei. This waiver does not apply to all-keys-lost service because an AKL vehicle cannot be driven to a meetup; we must bring the equipment to the vehicle.
What Toyota Tacoma years do you support?
We advertise service for supported Toyota Tacoma models through 2025. Some newer releases, configurations, or vehicle security systems may not be supported, so send the model year and ignition type before scheduling.
What is the difference between a transponder key and a proximity smart key fob?
A transponder key is a traditional key with an immobilizer chip and is normally inserted into the ignition. A proximity smart key fob communicates with a supported push-button-start vehicle and lets the driver start it while the fob is nearby.
Do you cut and program keys at the vehicle?
Yes. We bring mobile key-cutting and programming equipment to the vehicle. The Dolphin 2 cuts supported automotive keys, and Autel equipment programs supported transponder keys and proximity smart key fobs.
What residential locksmith services do you offer?
Residential services include home and vacation-rental lockouts, lock rekeying, key duplication, deadbolt and door-hardware replacement, and electronic keypad or smart-lock installation.
Do you install smart locks for vacation rentals?
Yes. We install dependable keypad locks and selected smart locks for homes and vacation rentals. We can help choose between a simple keypad model with long battery life and a connected lock with remote code management.
What information should I text for a locksmith quote?
For vehicle service, send the year, make, model, whether it has a keyed ignition or push-button start, the service needed, and the vehicle location. For residential work, send the property location, lock or door type, and a short description of the problem.
